Northumberland Park Community School

Northumberland Park Community School is situated in Haringey, North London. The school serves one of the most deprived wards in Greater London, yet it is among the top 10 most improved schools in the country. It caters for students between the ages of 11-16 years old.

The school roll is over 1000 students. The school is ethnically and culturally diverse. Over 62% of students do not speak English as their first language. This diverse community is represented by many ethnic groups from the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean. Teaching and non-teaching staff reflect the diversity of the student population. The school is proud of its diversity and sees this as a great advantage in educating students to live harmoniously together.

The school site is shared with The Vale, which caters for students who have a variety of physical impairments, medical conditions and learning difficulties. Vale students, where appropriate, and Northumberland Park students learn together in the same classrooms, share the playground and school canteen.

The school has excellent facilities. The Astroturf pitch serves both as a play area as well as a facility for the Physical Education Department. There is a heated swimming pool, a dance/drama studio, two sports halls and a theatre, all of which are used by the school and local community. The school will go through extensive refurbishment in 2009/10 as part of the government’s  “Building Schools for the Future” initiative:::LMS::: - Greek Partnership.

Northumberland Park has an extensive training programme for teaching and non- teaching staff and is the designated training school for the East of the Borough of Haringey
